Astrophotography: The Moon
hi! this posts contains compressed images. if you want the original images, don't hesitate to contact me! all photos are shared under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
over the past few months, i've taken pictures of the moon a few times, with a monocular and then with a small telescope for kids i got in a dumpster. the photos were taken with my pixel 7, by simply (it's actually really hard to get a good shot) lining up the phone with the lens of the telescope.
this photo was taken with just my phone during a lunar eclipse:
the next three photos were taken using the monocular:
and those were taken with the telescope:
fun fact: the reason why we see three moons is because of how the telescope works. it has a mirror to make a 90° angle so that it's easier to see from it, but because of how it's made (the silver reflective side is on the back of the mirror like regular mirrors, so light first has to go through a layer of glass before getting bounced off by the silver), it causes reflections that makes us see three moons instead of one!
this one was overexposed on purpose so we can see the part of the moon that's only it up by the Earth. pretty cool :3
looking back at those pictures, it's pretty crazy what kinds of photos we can get with a cheap telescope. i'm not letting myself get into astrophotography though, i know my wallet would never recover from this, lol :3
